Uganda
The Ugandan water supply sector (Ministry of Water and Environment) has made substantial progress in urban areas since the mid-1990s, with substantial increases in coverage as well as in operational and commercial performance. The most common technology options for rural water supply are protected springs, boreholes, protected wells, and gravity flow schemes. Access to safe water supplies throughout Uganda is 65%. However, there are still many communities (both rural and urban) that rely on contaminated water sources, which remain the main cause of infant mortality.
